“Investors need to have a degree of clarity. And at the moment, last week was very much characterised by the fact that the Bank of England and the Chancellor were at odds with one another. And you can’t have that. you just can’t… It’s very uncharacteristic. The rest of the world looks to developed markets like the UK for a lot of guidance and stability. I think the events of last week were really destabilising in terms of credibility. Not just for the government, but for the Bank of England as well. So that has to be restored, and we have to see some real clarity come out and come through.”
Patrick Farrell, our Chief Investment Officer and Head of Research reflects on market movements from the past week, provides an outlook on the economy more generally, and considers the implications of what is unfolding.
