In April 2022 a new plastic packaging tax will be introduced to encourage the use of recycled plastic. The tax will apply to UK manufacturers or importers of plastic packaging that is ‘predominantly plastic by weight’ meaning it does not contain at least 30% recycled plastic content. Overseen by the Treasury, the tax is part of a wider governmental ambition to reduce the impacts of plastic pollution.
