Social mobility is relevant to governance for a number of reasons: there are strategic benefits for companies from attracting and retaining people from diverse backgrounds; recruiting from diverse groups onto boards and executive committees sends an important signal around fairness; and there is a responsibility for business to support talented and driven people who face visible and invisible barriers.
This panel discussion considers what steps companies can take to address these issues. It was jointly hosted by the IoD Centre for Corporate Governance and the University of Bristol School of Management.
