In this session Howard Bassford (Partner and UK Head of Infrastructure, Construction and Transportation) is joined by Michael Greig and Claire Stoneman (Legal Directors) and Ross Corser (Senior Associate) to discuss the Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects (NSIP) reforms: action plan (https://www.gov.uk/government/publica…) and the consultation on Operational reforms to the NSIP consenting process (https://www.gov.uk/government/consult…) , published by the UK Government. These set out possible reforms to improve and streamline the increasingly cumbersome process to secure consent for NSIPs.
The team consider in particular the proposals for operational reform including improvements to the pre-application consultation process, a proposed fast track process for certain schemes, reforms to funding for the Planning Inspectorate and statutory consultees, more guidance on detail and flexibility within a development consent order (DCO), and amendments to the process for non-material and material amendments to DCOs.
