Whilst there has been a lot of attention to the EU’s AI Act, other pieces of legislation in the EU’s digital agenda have been quietly (perhaps) hitting the statute book. The Data Act (with broad extra territorial scope) is now in its transitional phase with a full coming into effect in September 2025. This will extend “GDPR-like” rights (such as access and portability) to data within connected devices and related services even if the data is not personal and the user is a corporate. There are also important provisions relating to interoperability and cloud contracts.
