In this CEDR Masterclass, we are delighted to be joined by four leading CEDR commercial mediators, Emma Gooding, Amrik Kandola, Andrew Manning Cox and Suzanne Tager, to give their experiences on how they work with lawyers in commercial mediation and the ways that legal representatives can add value for their client.
With a range of experience in senior roles at some of the world’s biggest law firms, the panel shares their insights into how lawyers can maximise effectiveness in a mediation.
This session led by Frederick Way, looks at the practical elements of the lawyer’s role in mediation, from preliminary conversation with the mediator, through the mediation day, negotiation and settlement discussions. The panel also explores some of the more challenging aspects for parties of tactics and legal strategies and discuss what works and what doesn’t from lawyers in mediation.

- Handling performative issues from lawyers on each side of a dispute.
- Working with negotiation tactics and stonewalling.
- How to handle hesitancy in making offers.
